Duplex steel flanges contain an equal microstructure of ferrite and austenite, 21–23% chromium, 4.5–6.5% nickel, 2.5–3.5% molybdenum and a very small amount of nitrogen. The flanges offer great corrosion resistance, surface tensile strength of 620–795 MPa, yield strength of about 450 MPa, as usual stiffness and elongation. The major characteristics that make duplex steel flanges so favourable is the high resistance to pitting, cracking, and stress corrosion cracking along with higher strengths and fatigue life. Indicated previously duplex steel flanges have greater toughness than conventional stainless steel means they can endure more demanding service environment in and that include chemical processing, marine environment, and oil and gas.
